L3 1 Round, Modified Burpees . . From Katy (pics) . For the past few years, it’s been hard for me to stay active and get myself to the gym. Actually, I pretty much hated the gym. Add on a stressful job and my habit of stress eating and I wasn’t feeling so great about myself. I had only been at CFF for less than 2 months when I decided to sign up for the LBNC. Everything was still very new to me, and the idea of cutting sugar and grains out of my diet seemed incredibly daunting, but with the help and support of my husband and fellow CFFers, I went for it. I expected to struggle with keeping up the diet and working out consistently on top of an already busy schedule. And basically it was pretty hard!! I read all I could about eating a paleo diet and how over time it gets better…and it did, but I still had all sorts of cravings especially for sugar! I never realized how much I liked drinking Diet Coke until I cut it out. But I did start to notice that the WODs became a bit easier as I stuck with the diet, and that I had more energy and even stopped drinking coffee for the most part – all of these factors were motivating and started to get me thinking about how I could make this more of a lifestyle change and not just a challenge. The biggest secret to making it through the LBNC was doing it with my husband and group of friends, which helped keep me accountable even when I really didn’t want to be! Another secret was planning ahead for meals and never letting myself get to that point where I’m running around all day, am starving and can only imagine eating a piece of pizza or I’m going to die. And not to forget, being part of a community that is helping and supporting you along the way was critical. I am extremely excited with the progress I’ve made through this challenge and even really that I made it through it at all. A few months ago, I was terrified of barbells, pull ups and pushing myself past that point where you think “oh my God, I’m going to throw up.” Now I can’t wait to get more PRs and finally get a real pull up. Thanks to all the coaches and all the members who have helped me find a new way to be healthy and get strong and most importantly, be a straight up CrossFit-ing badass.
